Introducing Fair Trade Summer Scarves

We are excited to introduce our new line of fair trade summer scarves thanks to our recent partnership with an empowerment center for women in Jodhpur, India. Each scarf is block-printed by hand and embellished with a beaded fringe. The cotton fabric is light and airy, making them the perfect summer accessory.

We met these artisans on our recent trip to India, in March 2011. As part of the lowest sector in a patriarchal society, these women are overcoming double discrimination. They are the first graduates of the empowerment center.

About the Empowerment Center

Govind Singh, a guesthouse owner, discovered that the daughters of one of his employees had never been to school. He told her to bring them to the guesthouse for some lessons. The next day, they showed up with 20 of their friends. Govind saw this as an opportunity and started a charity. He recruited teachers so he could offer these girls and women Hindi, English, Math as well as training in trades such as sewing. Learn more about the artisan group...

At Dolma, it is our goal to create sustainable partnerships with fair trade artisans so we can bring high quality, handmade products to the U.S. market. We are excited to give these women a chance to share their work and their story with the world. Through fair trade and education, they are making changes that will have a ripple effect for generations to come.
